From an early age I was attracted to bright colors. Growing up my mother sewed our clothes in bright patterns and vivid hues of reds, yellows and greens. While my muses move me in new directions and are subject to change, I remain grounded in my love of color, form and movement. Specifically, I am interested in the transparency and interplay of colors, and their subsequent impact on the mood of an art work.
I enjoy and respect art in terms of its ability to elevate the mundane, enhance beauty in daily life, communicate, and provide us with both fuel and opportunities to create with our minds, hearts and hands.
Sources of inspiration in my art, include Native American and Asian creation stories related to the turtle, trickster fox and coyote tales, shells and pods that serve as homes for life, and Day of the Dead Calaveras. Most recently, I have been working on a chicken series inspired by some universal ties that bind rural traditions. In addition, I created a relief print series of chairs that reflects how rhythm in pattern and form can transcend the ordinary.
